They both hold their own merits.  Schooling at an actual “brick and mortar” establishment gives you a chance to network with your instructors and fellow students.  You also get to ask your questions to somebody standing right in front of you… to get an immediate answer.

The downside is that it is expensive and that the course material tends to be a bit outdated.  The travel industry is one of the fastest changing industries, and what’s important to know often changes before the curriculum dries on the paper.

With home study courses, you get to tap into the latest developments in the industry.  They also give you a well rounded approach that is usually based on real world experience. You never have to unlearn any theory that only works in the classroom.  When you finish the course you hit the ground running, ready to start making travel agent commissions from day one.

The downside is if you don’t have much self-discipline you won’t learn a lick.  The books won’t open and read themselves.
