Some advice about Western Caribbean Cruises
Under Western Caribbeansome advice about Western Caribbean Cruises
We were on the Radiance of the Seas for the western Caribbean cruise on November 28/04. This was our second cruise with Royal Caribbean with our first year on the last major Adventure of the Seas. After one cruise with RCI, I probably have the same standards as the Radiance and in general, I was not disappointed.
Staterooms:
Our cabin was an inside aft cabin and we were not disappointed. It was spacious enough and the lighting was adequate. Storage space and drawers were also sufficient to use for our. We have found that the double here, actually a little better than the one we had on the Adventure since we could not really feel the split between the two separate beds, like we did last time. If there is one thing that can be improved is the shower curtain. One was installed sufficiently consistent in all the water from the shower. On the Adventure utilized a double glass door system that was far superior to shower. Otherwise, the cabin was nice and dark for sleeping at night. Although we heard a little noise from the cabins next to us, it was minimal. We did not want to miss, with a window or balcony at all, because we hardly ever in our cabin. We were either at port or elsewhere on the ship and went back to our cabins to relax or sleep. We would definitely book an inside cabin again with RCI, if we had a free upgrade.
Food:
The main Cascades dining room was nice and meals were good. Breakfasts had the same menu every morning. Lunch in the dining room was okay. The dinner was good, but not every meal item was a winner. There was the odd appetizer and dessert that is not up to par. One thing that my partner noticed was that the portions of the main courses seemed to be less than that served on the adventure. We went to the top of the rule to the Windjammer to get more food after dinner at the Cascades. to cramp set in some parts of the Cascades Lounge, The tables were, so go out own table was at times difficult. The SB Windjammer was good. It was usually more choice of meals served, as the bottom of the Cascades. Breakfast and lunch were busy at the Windjammer but during evenings, most chose people dine at the Cascades. The two other optional restaurants onboard Portafino Chopper and House were in U.S. dollars per person, but we have never tried them since the meals were available included in the Cascades and Windjammer already by us in order. Other passengers who go to these optional rooms told us that they are nothing special. There was another cafe available during the late evening called the Seaview and they provided fare such as sandwiches, salads and burgers. That was a nice feature. One thing we have to end, was that they are for the coffee and tea is available free of charge. There was also a specialty coffee place on the main centrum of the ship and they are also charged. We had more availability of free beverages on the Adventure.
Service:
The service from the cabin attendants and dining room staff was first rate as expected.
Entertainment:
The evening shows at the Aurora Theatre is a mixture of the ship’s own crew of dancers and singers and some were outside comics and singers. In general, the shows were very good. We would like to mix them instead of entertainment every night allocate music, comedy and magic have in different evenings. Instead of an entire show of magic, we would prefer every night with a variety of entertainment. Live music around the vessel was added a nice touch.
Facilities:
Although less subtle than the Adventure, the Radiance had amenities including the gym / spa, mini golf, pools and shops. There was internet access but at 50 cents per minute, the service is a bit steep. There were things during the days at sea, as do art auctions, cooking demos and dance classes. However, we felt that it was more available to the adventure. As for getting in and out, it was no problem on the Radiance. The 6th Level include the casino and the Non smoking, this was a problem. The ventilation in the casino was not great, and traveled as a result, cigarette smoke to adjacent areas near the casino. My partner wanted to avoid it, on the 6th Level whenever possible.
In summary, we enjoyed our cruise on the Radiance of the Seas. However, comparing it to the larger Adventure of the Seas, we would rate the larger ship a bit higher. We liked the huge promenade on the Adventure, which was not available on a smaller ship like the Radiance. In an election in the future, we would decide for the larger ship. For first time cruisers, the Radiance would still be a good ship to vacation on. This is simply the case where the veteran cruisers would expect, especially if they have been at the top of the vessels.
Image of nasa1fan/MSFC Editor’s Note: This is a picture archive from 2006. Bajo Nuevo Reef in the western Caribbean, is photographed in this picture by an Expedition 13 crewmember on the International Space Station ISS presented. The Bajo Nuevo Reef is about 26 kilometers long, consisting of two separate U-shaped cays, with only a small sandy islands associated with them. This detail view shows small, low islands that fringe the windward side (right) of the lagoon. These islands seem affected by the shadow wave swells, which almost seem to wash over them. The most striking feature is the broad pattern of swell, which show two slightly different orientations, producing a tightly crossed pattern. These swells are oriented perpendicular to the wind direction and were probably set in motion by two different storms hundreds of miles east of the reef. A single irregular line of bright color – also suggestive of surface oil – traces a path along the south side of Lagune.Image / caption Credit: NASAView original image / caption: spaceflight.nasa.gov / gallery / images / Station / Crew -13/html /… More about Space Station Science: www.nasa.gov / mission_pages / station / science / index.html There are a Flickr group on Space Station Science.
